Papua New Guinea welcomes all participants to the 2018 APEC Economic Leaders' Week; APEC Concluding Senior Officials' Meeting (CSOM), the 30th APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) and the 26th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM). This Media Advisory provides the Media from Member Economies detailed information on administrative and logistical arrangements and other relevant information.

Online registration is now open for the following meetings to be held in Port Moresby this month. The meetings are:

  1. Concluding Senior Officials' Meeting: 12-13 November
  2. Fourth APEC Business Advisory Council Meeting: 13-14
  3. APEC Ministers Meeting (AMM): 15 November
  4. APEC CEO Summit: 16-17 November
  5. APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM): 17-18 November

Please ensure to register before the DEADLINE, which is November 10th.

Domestic Media

Journalist or Photographer/Cameraman must upload, a copy of:

  1. A form of ID (Valid Passport Bio-Data Page/Valid Work ID/Valid NID)
  2. Recent Photo (Portrait/Mugshot)
  3. Equipment List
  4. Letter of Assignment (on official letterhead, signed and stamped) from Media Organisation represented.

International Media

Journalist or Photographer/Cameraman must upload, a copy of:

  1. Valid Passport Bio-Data Page
  2. Valid Journalist Visa
  3. Recent Photo (Portrait/Mugshot)
  4. Equipment List
  5. Letter of Assignment (on official letterhead, signed and stamped) from Media Organisation represented.

NOTE: You DO NOT need a Journalist Visa to apply for Media Accreditation. Lodge in your application for Media Accreditation, and when you receive an automated notification confirming your registration, use this to support your Journalist Visa Application.


International media representatives are required to possess passports or other applicable travel documents being valid at least six (6) months with journalist visas upon their entries to Papua New Guinea. Those from economies, who DO NOT have visa exemption agreements with PNG, are advised to contact to the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council (DPM&NEC) Media Unit to get a Letter of Approval. The following documents:

  1. Valid Passport Bio-Data Page
  2. Valid Work ID
  3. Recent Photo (Portrait/Mug shot)
  4. Equipment List
  5. Letter of Assignment (on official letterhead, signed and stamped) from Media Organisation represented
  6. Confirmed travel itinerary
  7. Completed PNG Journalist Visa Application Form.

Once you receive a Letter of Approval, you will then be advised by the PNG Foreign Affairs Department of the respective PNG Embassies/High Commissions or Consulates listed on the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Services Authority on the status of your visa.

You may also upload a copy of the Journalist Visa Application Form (completed) and all relevant documents onto your online International Media Registration Form for the respective meetings to be processed by the relevant PNG Government departments and authorities.

Note: Please be advised that the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority (ICSA), have introduced the ability to provide International Media with an electronic Journalist Visa (Journalist E-visa) to attend APEC 2018 PNG AELM. As a result of this change, your information will be sent to ICSA again and if a visa has already been issued to you under the old arrangments, then this visa will stand. If a visa under the old arrangements has not yet been issued, ICSA will assess your application for the issueance of an Journalist e-visa. Once the e-visa is issued ICSA will provide you with an email that will outline visa payment arrangements that can be undertaken upon arrival at the Jacksons International Airport, Port Moresby, PNG.

APEC shuttle bus service is provided for international media representative on arrival at the Jacksons International Airport, Port Moresby to accredited hotels for the respective meetings. You may also use this service to attend the meeting venue at the International Convention Centre. Please refer to schedule


All accredited APEC Media Passes will be issued in the Accreditation Centre located at the International Media Centre at Taurama Aquatic Centre on the commencement date of the respective meetings between 8am and 9am. NB: All passes must be collected prior to attending any meeting and must be worn at all times to gain access to meeting venues and related events.
