The announcement of the APEC 2018 Best Award this morning has brought judges from the selected APEC economies to screen women entrepreneurs in the Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Deputy Director of Russian Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects, Natalia Strigunova who proposed APEC 2018 Award said the project seeks to distinguish, spread and encourage the best practices of Women-owned SMEs across the APEC economies.

The project this year had gathered nominee profiles from the entrepreneurial competitions of individual APEC economies to compete in the framework of the BEST Award.

Participation in the international Business Efficiency and Success Target Award provides participants with a chance to internationalize their businesses, attract foreign partners and potential investors across APEC economies, as well as encourage more women into SMEs and enable job creation from different industries whilst bolstering economic growth by applying successful business models.

Medium Small to Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) plays a major role in the economic development of APEC Member economies, both internally and in the context of global supply chains that makes up over 95% of enterprises in the region. Equipping women in the economy provides them the potential to develop and excel in the business sector that again contributes to economic development.
