Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Director General Dr. Frank Rijsberman says that “Climate change is truly the defining issue of our time”.

With the enormous economic growth and rapid development in the Asia Pacific region, people in the region are now dealing with climate change, he said.

It is believed that as a consequence of climate change the people of the Asia-Pacific need to find ways to replace Coal with healthier forms of fuel.

Climate change in the Asia-Pacific region is crucial with the trend in development. Thus, GGGI’s production and development of electricity from renewables, particularly solar and wind energy and in electric energy are to cater for climate change in the region.

Dr Rijsberman stated that GGGI have already started work in Papua New Guinea, however, there is much more that needs to be done in the country and the region to address Climate change.

He further stated that there are few governments signing up to be 100% renewable meaning to use solar and wind energy which are already cheaper instead of building new coal and gas plants.

The GGGI is an intergovernmental organization in about 30 countries across the Asia Pacific, a trusted advisor to develop and implement focused green growth policies combined with an ability to increase access to green and climate finance.
