Foreign Affairs Minister Pato To Visit China

Chinese President Xi Jingping has been confirmed to attend the APEC leaders summit in November.

This confirmation was made by a spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Geng Shuang.

Mr Geng was giving a brief to the media in Beijing on PNG’s Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Rimbink Pato’s visit to China next week.

Mr Geng said Xi Jingping’s visit to PNG is Very important as the meeting willoffer important opportunities for the further development of China-Papua New Guinea relations.

“China is willing to work with Papua New Guinea to sustain the momentum of exchanges at the high level and all the other levels, deepen all-around mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional affairs and strive for the greater development of China-Papua New Guinea strategic partnership,” Geng said.

He said prior to that Mr Pato will be in China following an invitation from his Chinese counterpart State Councilor and Foreign Affairs minister Wang Yi.

His visitation will See the two ministers exchange views on China-Papua New Guinea relations and the international and regional issues of mutual interest.

Mr Geng said over the past 42 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China-Papua New Guinea relations have achieved considerable development, through the concerted efforts of the two sides.

He said this relationship was particularly under the guidance of the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill in November 2014 to establish a strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development.

He said since then China-Papua New Guinea relations have entered a new stage of rapid development.
