The President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping officially opened the Independence Boulevard Drive in a significant handover ceremony today.

In his address the President Xi said he was pleased to attend the handover ceremony together with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

Xi said the Independence Boulevard signifies the deep friendship between the people of both countries and is a token of best wishes to the people of Papua New Guinea from the people of China.

He added that it will become a landmark in Port Moresby contributing to the economic prosperity of the people of this nation.

The president remarked about the relationship of both countries over the last 42 years which has continued to grow stronger.

He added that from this bilateral relationship, the people of both countries have benefitted greatly and have worked together promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

“China-PNG relationship has thrived and blossomed over the last years of our diplomatic relations. Both People have benefitted greatly from this relationship and together we have contributed to peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific Region”, said President Xi Jin Ping.

The President further assured PNG that with the help and support China has given with the organising of the APEC meeting, he is confident that the nation is set to deliver the most successful meeting and will offer an unforgettable experience to the visiting economies.

Quoting from a famous Chinese saying, “With the determination of the river to embrace the sea, one can go anywhere he wants” the president stated that the PNG-China bilateral relation is set to continue to thrive and blossom.

He also assured the people of PNG that China is committed to strengthen trust and cooperation in order to build many more roads to linking prosperity, openness and friendship with its strategic commitment to stand together with developing nations.
