O'Neill applauds young people's efforts on APEC

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has applauded the efforts put in by young Papua New Guineans towards the hosting of APEC 2018.

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has applauded the efforts put in by young Papua New Guineans towards the hosting of APEC 2018.

While addressing APEC officials and staff, mostly made up of young people, he praised the efforts put in and told them that the future of the country was in their hands and they needed to take ownership of it.

"The future of the country is for the young people. We need to make sure that we build connections, we build the relationships that is required for us to develop and grow, and this cannot happen without you."

"You have done a great job.We will celebrate after we complete this job, but for now give it all our best."

O'Neill also encouraged young people to embrace the opportunities given by APEC.

He stressed that young people need to make use of the opportunities given by APEC by building relationships and forming connections with people from the other APEC economies.

"Some of the people that you will meet and engage over the next few days as you've done over the past 250 meetings are network of people that you can communicate, and make sure that you engage with.

"They are people in positions and responsibilities in their own countries. They can give you opportunities in things we don't have in the country," the Prime Minister stressed.

He encouraged and told the young men and women that the country was proud of their efforts to ensure successful delivery of the world event.
