PNG has huge potential for tourism

PNG has potential to excel in terms of tourism. This was emphasized by the APEC Minister Justin Tkatchenko, who said that given PNG’s unique location and conducive climate, it has potential to showcase its tourism possibilities.

PNG has potential to excel in terms of tourism. This was emphasized by the APEC Minister Justin Tkatchenko, who said that given PNG’s unique location and conducive climate, it has potential to showcase its tourism possibilities.

“The weather is nice, tropicial sunshine and we got lovely beaches.

"And also we got our strength, which is our cultural heritage comprising of eight hundred plus different languages and almost over one thousand tribes with their own unique ways of lifestyle."

"This makes PNG a very unique country out of other countries in the world," Minister Tkatchenko said. The Minister spoke about the unique cultures and traditions passed on from ancestors that are still being practiced up until today.

Tkatchenko reiterated that the various cultures are showcased through traditional dancers and songs and often admired internationally.

Meantime, he added that APEC Regional tourism was important for jobs and the economy of PNG as there are so much potential for tourism in PNG.

"We rely heavily on our extractive industries in the country, but tourism provides an alternative for the country as a whole because it will be on-going," Minister Tkatchenko said.

The Minister added that extractive industries will one day end but tourism will be the way forward for future generations and APEC would play an important role in boosting the tourism industry in the country.
