SOM Chair welcome members to the APEC SOM Family

Chairman of the APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), H.E Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu welcomed some new inclusion to the APEC SOM Family during the opening of the third SOM meeting in Port Moresby.

Chairman of the APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), H.E Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu welcomed some new inclusion to the APEC SOM Family during the opening of the third SOM meeting in Port Moresby.

The latest members include Ms Nor Ashikin Johari (Brunei), Mr Toshiro IIjima (Japan), Mr Mark Talbot (New Zealand), Mr Leo M. Herrera-Lim (Philippines), Mr Loong-Jin Chen (Chinese Taipei) and Mrs Vilawan Mangklatanakul (Thailand).

“I would like to extend a special welcome to our latest additions to the APEC SOM Family. We look forward to working with you, and your important contributions”.

Ambassador Pomaleu said he was pleased to see progress, in many respects after eight gruelling months.

“SOM3 has been very busy for all our delegations.

“Over the past two weeks we have had more than a hundred policy engagements, including Workshops, Dialogues, Joint Meetings, Working Group Meetings, and High Level Meetings.

“We are now at the tail-end of business and I look forward to the next two days of productive exchanges so that we can produce concrete outcomes going forward” Amb Pomaleu said.

He appealed for members’ cooperation to finalise a number of key policy outcomes which were important to the host, including amongst other things, work on the digital and internet economy.

“We are also anxious to hear the outcomes of the APEC Vision Group (AVG) - related meetings, including the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue which took place on 15 August,” he added.

As per the agenda of the two day SOM3, day1 includes presentations by chairs of the respective clusters to the SOM on progress of activities from the two week meetings including high level discussions on policy matters on a range of sectors.

While the second day of SOM3 will look at noting the next steps to progress the APEC Post – 2020 Vision, the forward work program by the AVG and noting the report from the SOM Chair on the Multi- Stakeholder Dialogue.
