Members of the Senior Officials Meeting Steering Group (SSG) on Post-2020 Vision Meeting have agreed for community dialogue and involvement to gauge tangible feedback on the impact of the APEC.

Member economies of the SOM-SSG reached an understanding that the existence of APEC and its respective cluster of meetings are based on improving the livelihood of the citizens of each economy.

The members set their comments on the basis that APEC exists “to create greater prosperity for the people of the region by promoting balanced, inclusive, sustainable, innovative and secure growth and by accelerating regional economic integration”.

APEC Vision group will now move forward with an ambitious work program aimed at delivering recommendations to APEC member economies next year.

Member economies present for the meeting gave their views on community participation for transparency and actual feedback in working towards finalising a report on the Bogor Goals and Post-2020.

According to comments from the floor, the outlook for inclusiveness has to be lived up to, and complemented by digital connectivity.

Economies in the SSG meeting suggested a concept similar to that of the Bogor Goal after 2020 which will be written up and the idea put forward to the Senior Officials for further deliberation.

The establishment of the APEC Vision Group is to help shape the forum’s direction beyond 2020—the region’s inspirational target year for realising free and open trade and investment that has driven APEC over the last quarter century.
